In 1924, the Sedler family started Home City Ice. Over its long history, the business has become the largest family owned and operated packaged ice company in the nation. It's all about producing the cleanest, healthiest ice possible and getting it into your coolers and beverages using proprietary production and distribution methods that are so efficient that they've allowed Home City Ice to have one of the smallest carbon footprints in the packaged ice industry.
Openfield Creative provided strategic planning, design and development services for the new Home City Ice website. The project began with a thorough review of HCI's existing site architecture, design and functionality. Interactive wireframes were created to help our team and our client plan for content and functionality updates. Once a reorganized site architecture was agreed upon, OFC's design team began visual explorations that led to the newly designed interface. The Openfield development team collaborated with HCI's internal IT team to ensure the CMS we provided gelled with their existing data sources.
As part of the project, we created the company's News feature built upon a blog platform that allows HCI to quickly launch and categorize posts. Additional interactive site features such as the Ice Calculator and an IceQ Test provide users with tools and test their knowledge about the science behind HCI's ice.
We continue to work with Home City Ice to plan and create front- and back-end enhancements that help them provide better service to their customers.
